Marker27 came about after a couple years in the business. Most of you may not know that Marker27 was my fourth name. Here is all how it began. I was 26, turning 27 and trying to figure out what to do with my life. I have always enjoyed making clothing or altering them in some kind of a way. Spring break was here and Fort Myers Beach was the place to be! I was out with friends on the boat and all I kept seeing was the same swimsuits everywhere. You know, Victoria Secret and Target. So I decided one day to take two of my bikinis and cut them up and make something new. It was turquoise and orange. Miami Dolphins colors! It was great. I received many compliments on it. After that I decided to go buy some fabric and sketch up some designs. I only started making bottoms at first because that seemed like it was the easiest thing to do. I made my own patterns and tried over and over again until I got them right. I started to wear the bottoms out and people wanted to buy them. I said I’m not making bikinis for a business, these are just for me. Exclusive. Well after a couple months I started to make them for friends then more and more people wanted them. I learned how to make tops and then I eventually started a company. That’s where Nauti Jypsy came along. Nauti bc I love being on the water. It’s my happy place. And Jypsy, J is for Johnson my last name and Jypsy, I was always traveling somewhere or doing something. I was a wanderlust of a person. After I filed for it to be trademarked, Nautica sent me a cease and desist. So, I changed it to Jypseaian & Co. The same thing happened. Another cease and desist. When that happened, the company that sent me the second cease and desist also notified all of my social media accounts that I was imposing and I lost everything. All my contacts, followers, pictures, EVERYTHING. That didn’t stop me. Well it almost did. But I didn’t want to give up, not yet. So I started all over and opened social media back up as MJ Bikinis. I was going to leave it. But I didn’t Love the name.
One day I was at lunch with some friends at Horsin’ around Deli and we came up with the name Marker 27. Marker because of the Channel Markers on the water and 27 for my age. I said if this doesn’t work then I guess it wasn’t meant to be. I found a new attorney and I went for it. Marker 27 was established on March 14, 2017. Two days after my birthday. It was the best present I had ever received. Even if it was a couple days late. At the end of the day, if you find something you love and that brings you joy, do whatever you can to make it happen!
