Marker 27 was born from passion, persistence, and a love for the water.
What many don’t know is that it’s actually my fourth brand name. It all started when I was 26, turning 27, trying to figure out what to do with my life. I’ve always loved making and altering clothes, and during spring break on Fort Myers Beach, I noticed everyone wearing the same swimsuits—Victoria’s Secret, Target, nothing unique.
So I grabbed two bikinis, cut them up, and created something new in turquoise and orange—Miami Dolphins colors! The compliments rolled in, and I was hooked. I started sketching designs, bought fabric, and taught myself how to make bikini bottoms. At first, they were just for me—exclusive. But soon friends wanted them, then friends of friends. I learned how to make tops, and eventually launched my first brand: Nauti Jypsy.
“Nauti” for my love of the water, and “Jypsy” for my last name, Johnson, and my wanderlust spirit. But trademark issues forced me to change names—twice. I lost everything: social media, followers, contacts. It was devastating, but I didn’t give up.
After a lunch at Horsin’ Around Deli, the name Marker 27 was born—“Marker” for the channel markers on the water, and “27” for my age. I found a new attorney, filed the paperwork, and on March 14, 2017—two days after my birthday—Marker 27 was officially established.
This brand is more than swimwear. It’s a reminder that if you love something and it brings you joy, fight for it. Build it. Wear it proudly.
